Today marks the 6th Anniversary of Principal
Photography on The Part.
The Part is a ‘Nother Brother Entertainment production Written
and Directed by Dankwa Brooks.
Synopsis: Aisha is apprehensive, not ashamed, of revealing her new acting part to her family. Her father doesn’t make matters better by putting her on the spot to reveal it at a family cookout at their house. As I approach my next film Hymnal I’m thinking a lot about this film. Like all artist I’m critical of my own work and I feel like I can see every mistake I made. LOL. But like the late great one said
I’m proud of the film, but I wish we had spent MORE time
shooting it.
We shot it in a half a day and that was with a HUGE cast.
Most of the cast only had a few lines, but it still was a lot to coordinate and
cover. I wanted the main characters reveal to be at an event that was both
public and private. A family gathering. I also wrote the film at a location I
knew I could have full access to, the home of my uncle and aunt, Jerome and
Gwen. We shot in front of, inside and
behind their house in the backyard. We made FULL use of the set. LOL
On the day of shooting I was expecting WAY more extras in
friends and family, but by the time they all showed up we had wrapped. As I stated in the post "The Part"-World Premiere
After we finally completely the film I had a catered a Private Screening for family, cast and crew. It was great to see everyone back together again and it was a great night. We went in to have several public screenings of the film and I eventually put it on YouTube for the cast and crew.
I’ve learned and shot SO MUCH stuff since shooting this film six years ago and I’m finally ready to shoot the next one!
I’m still friends and keep in contact with most of the cast and crew and lo these years later I still THANK THEM for all of their work and participation.

"I expected this film to be finished a long time ago, but because of the yearly revolution of the Earth around the Sun and the tilt of the Earth's axis relative to the plane of revolution we had to halt production. In other words the seasons changed and we couldn't shoot additional shots for the cookout anymore. LOL.
We finally had additional shooting (called pick up shots) during the spring and summer 2009."I recount a lot of what went on on this blog. I created this blog for the burgeoning filmmakers to read about the progress of the film. A sort of “war journal”.
