Meet the music artists of The Part: What's the Score Part 3

We had some great independent music artist contribute songs to The Part. If you are interested in some great music PLEASE check out their web pages and SUPPORT these independent artists. They don’t have songs on heavy rotation on your local radio YET, but they make some great music and worth checking out. How do you do that? Read on.

The main theme of The Part is Only Believe by Stephen Cooper. I was looking for something mellow to open the film and Stephen came up with the perfect theme to not only open the film to compliment the main character.

We also had Big City Lady by Kimia “ChynaDoll” Collins (pictured above). Big City Lady is featured during the cookout scene in the film and it really sets the scene for a great cookout vibe.

Finally we had Wonderful which is just that a wonderful song by Reina Williams (pictured above) featuring Only. It is the first full song you hear in the film and it really kicks up the pace after the mellow beginning.

Tech Check

Last night I went to that hot new restaurant Tech and the check was like WOW! How much was that crab cake? …ok that was my attempt (ill attempt?) at humor.

Last night Gino (the EIC) and I did a tech check at the Rotunda Theater. A technical check or "tech check" is when a filmmaker goes to the theater to see their film projected on the screen to see that it looks AND sounds right. The Part and our “Special Secret Film” looked and sounded right. Thank God.

Below are some pics I took with my cell phone. Bootleg? Well it’s not really bootleg since it’s photos right? Ok say it’s bootleg, I think I’m allowed to bootleg my own film right?

Anyway, below are the pics, they may be dark, but IT IS footage from the film (If you look real hard you can see the little green exit signs to the left and right of the screen).

I have included captions describing some of what the footage in the photos is, but the best way to find out exactly what the footage it is is to SEE the film. You can read about where to do that right here. Shameless self promotion? On this level of independent film there is no such thing…SEE THE PART! LOL.

‘Nother Brother Entertainment presents “The Part”

Baltimore, Maryland-November 23, 2009 - The Part, a Dankwa Brooks film, is a short film shot in Randallstown, Maryland.

Aisha is apprehensive, not ashamed, of revealing her new acting part to her family. Her father doesn’t make matters better by putting her on the spot to reveal it at a family cookout at their house.

Written in December 2007, The Part has its World Premiere December 15, 2009 at the Rotunda Cinematheque in Baltimore, Maryland.

With the majority of the story set at a cookout, The Part was shot in August 2008 with additional shooting (called pick up shots) during the spring and summer 2009. The cast and crew had a chance to see the film last October at a Private Screening and now the general public gets its chance.

The World Premiere will feature our film The Part as well as outtakes and bloopers. We will also be showing our film Making History with a bonus Special Secret Screening of one of our films.

The Part is listed on IMDb, the Internet Movie Database and we also created a blog Part Blog, Part News detailing much of the process it took to make the film.

"The Part"-World Premiere

I expected this film to be finished a long time ago, but because of the yearly revolution of the Earth around the Sun and the tilt of the Earth's axis relative to the plane of revolution we had to halt production. In other words the seasons changed and we couldn't shoot additional shots for the cookout anymore. LOL.

We finally had additional shooting (called pick up shots) during the spring and summer 2009. The cast and crew had a chance to see the film last October at a Private Screening and now the WORLD gets its chance.

Keeping Score: What's the Score Part 2

More than a year ago I spoke of adding music to The Part in my blog entry What's the score?  I am happy to say that I found some great music for the film, but it was a long road.

I scoured the Internet for royalty free music for the film, but couldn’t find anything that fit. I then reached out to some local Independent music artists that I knew and FINALLY found what I was looking for. It was a tough process, let me explain (and you knew I would).

The Part is a “family drama” and while it’s about love, the music I found was the wrong kind of love. Every song I heard was about falling in love, falling out of love, or making love. All great concepts, but the scenes in The Part had nothing to do with any of those matters.

After I found some music, my Music Supervisor (you can read more about what that is in the blog entry here) had to listen to it and see if it fit in the film and then I negotiated the rights.

We also came across some great songs that just didn’t fit in the film. This is a short film and I really didn’t want it wall-to-wall music. It isn’t a Michael Jackson short film after all.(R.I.P. MJ)

I’m happy to say that we finally did find the music and I would like to showcase the artists who contributed.

The first person that graciously allowed us to use their music was superbly talented Reina Williams.

The next person was the singer extraordinaire Kimia "Chyna Doll" Collins.

We also included a song from our man of many talents Gino’s (the EIC) band Rubberband.

The last person we secured music from also worked on the film Stephen Cooper. In between shots Stephen remarked to me that he was a musician. I told him we were still looking for music and feel free to submit some. He did and we picked one of his songs.

"The Part" Screening

Written in December 2007, The Part finally has its first public screening November 13, 2009. With the majority of the story set at a cookout, The Part was shot in August 2008 with additional shooting (called pick up shots) during the spring and summer 2009. The cast and crew had a chance to see the film last month at a Private Screening and now the general public gets its chance.

At CAmm Shorts, CAmm (Creative Alliance Movie Makers) presents its night of short films by local filmmakers. 'Nother Brother Entertainment's "The Part" by Dankwa Brooks will be featured among films by Travis Mays, Ryan Thomas, Michael Kimball, Hunter Nesbitt, Matthew Hahn and Linda Franklin. Q & A with filmmakers follows the films.

We are working on another public screening of The Part to feature our other films as well as outtakes and bloopers from The Part for hopefully early December.

The Part on the Net

I am happy to announce that we have been selected to receive an IMDb Title Page for our film "The Part." The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) is an online database of information related to movies, actors, television shows, production crew personnel, featured in visual entertainment media. The IMDb website consists of one of the largest accumulation of data about films, television programs, etc. reaching back to each medium's respective beginning.

This means that everyone involved in our production will gain exposure on the most recognized and trafficked movie site in the world - with 57 million unique visitors a month.

There isn’t much on the page yet, but like this blog it will grow as time goes on. Updates have already been submitted and will have to go through the IMDb data managers for verification. In the meantime, enjoy our new Title Page. As IMDb put it "It's the best way to continue to promote and immortalize the work [we] have done."
